A novel that crosses genres, Mission Accomplished is the kind of story that's got a bit of everything - mystery, supernatural and romance, both historical and contemporary - indeed, the threads of past and present are entwined from the outset, although it is only as the mystery unfolds just how deeply entwined they are.
The setting is a village in the Yorkshire dales, with just the kinds of people you'd expect to find there, and what is particularly wonderful is that, aside from the main protagonists, most of the characters are older people, which is how it should be, because it is a story across two generations (grandparents/grandchildren).
Saying more would be tricky without giving away spoilers. Suffice to say, digging up the past is always bound to unearth a few unexpected surprises, often the kind that are better left undisturbed.
A great read, well-written, intriguing and with a touching conclusion.
